Additional Ishmael Information

A man and a great ape conduct a series of philosophical conversations in a work that presents a new vision of evolution and humankind and asks the question: does the Earth belong to humans, or do humans belong to the Earth?

What Customers Say About Ishmael:

Read it. It's a quick, interesting read, and above all, will make you think. This book instantly became one of my all-time favorites. It's a little weird, but that's part of its charm.

Four years later this books has been the topic of many conversations, and through passing it on to others, the inspirational and enlightening way in which Quinn addresses the reader, this book has changed not only my life but others as well. I IMMEDIATELY wished I would have read it sooner. This is the best book I've ever read, and I only wish that more people would read it and learn from it. This is one of the most memorable books I've EVER read. Loaned to me by my friend in Philosophy I let it sit on my shelf for a few months before reading it.

As a reader who enjoys non fiction I found the format of the talking gorilla ridiculous. For those of us who have not noticed this before reading the book then perhaps it is a good read.

The premise could be written in three pages so I resented having to read the whole book to pick out the simplistic kernels. But for anyone who is poignantly aware of this already this book will feel like redundant information.

This was the most annoying boring book I have ever attempted to complete but as it was a book club read I was compelled to read it. We as humans are destroying the planet with pollution, population and disregard for all other ecosystems.

In any case, it has made me feel so strongly that it has compelled me to write my first book review. As others have suggested it is so annoying you find yourself beginning to analyze why it is so irritating and of course there is value in critical thinking.

The basic tenant of book is good.

In saying that I don't mean to dismiss Quinn's point but only put it in perspective. Quinn's main focus seems to be an attack upon human exceptionalism (the belief that humans are a distinctively valuable part of the planet). Ironically, though the main wisdom figure is an ape (a telepathic ape no less) this novel could not have been written by an ape; thus proving that even though humanity is unexceptional in many ways we do have the ability to write novels (and make a little money in the process). This book has attained cult status among many. This is a book you will be glad to have read but will not need to refer to again. It is a meditation on civilization, the nature of humanity, the fate of the globe. If I told you that it was an extended conversation between an ape and a human I would be telling you a misleading truth. It is thought-provoking but not profound.

Book in excellent shape and rather fast shipping (I ordered it before a long weekend).I recommend this seller.
